"Great hair starts with great care"

Like all things, great quality comes with a price tag which is the same when it comes to human hair. Unlike synthetic wigs, human hair wigs give you the ability to style, color, and manipulate the hair texture as you would your natural hair. However, because of these manipulations and similarities, it is important to properly maintain human hair as you would your natural hair. Due to the delicacy of human hair wigs, some people may likely find the process of preservation a bit more difficult. But, to ensure you receive the maximum use of your investment maintenance is highly necessary. One maintenance process in particular that you should always consider is washing your human hair wig. We have provided you with a pre and post-installation care routine to assist you with your hair care journey. Let us help you protect your investment!

Step 1: Washing Your Human Hair Wig (Pre- Installation)

  • Using a wide tooth comb, gently comb out the hair starting from the ends and working your way up to the cap. This step allows you to get rid of any tangling that may occur during the washing process. Be sure to avoid snagging and complete this step until you can run the comb through freely.

  • Fill your wash bowl with a mix of lukewarm water and shampoo. It is recommended that you use premium products to avoid stripping the hair of its natural minerals. Also, be mindful that if you are washing a wig that has been colored you want to avoid using a clarifying shampoo and use a shampoo that is color-safe to maintain the color of the hair.

  • Place your wig into the wash bowl mixture and submerge the hair by pressing down gently. Please note that massaging shampoo into hair may cause frizzing. Instead, it is best to let the wig soak for about 5- 10 minutes.

  • Remove the wig from the wash bowl mixture and drain the mixture out before rinsing. Rinse the hair in a wash bowl with cool water to remove shampoo from the wig. It is important to rinse thoroughly to ensure that all the shampoo is gone.

  • Using a premium conditioner for your wig texture, Apply the conditioner to your wig and gently distribute the conditioner throughout the hair using your fingers.

  • Let the conditioner sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing in cool water.

Step 2: Drying Your Human Hair Wig

  • Now that you have completed the rinsing process, gently squeeze the hair with a clean towel to release water from the wig. Please note that bunching and twisting the wig may result in tangling and/or frizzing.

  •  For best results, hang or lay your wig on a flat, dry surface to let air dry. Consider applying some moisturizer or mouse for curly hair during this step.

  • If you can, try to avoid using a blow dryer. However, it is understandable that the drying process can take some time so if you need to blow dry for a faster drying time use the cool setting on your blow dryer and be sure to dry the cap first. It is important to try to remember the 80/20 rule. Dry the wig on a cool setting until it is about 80% dry and let it air dry the other 20%. Using high heat will cause frizzing, dryness as well as damage to the hair texture.

Step 3: Styling and Caring Tips For Your Human Hair Wig

  • Your hair is washed and now it is completely dry and ready to be styled to your desired liking. For curly or wavy textures, it is best to avoid using small toothcombs and fine brushes. Small tooth combs will disrupt the original pattern of the hair and may cause it to tangle and/or frizz.

  • Avoid using excessive products when styling. Excessive product use can lead to build-up on the hair which will require more maintenance and time.

  • If possible, use a lower heat range when curling or straightening wigs. Be mindful that high heat on human hair wigs tends to have the same effect as it would if you used high heat on your natural hair.

  • If you are using lace glue to secure your wigs make sure to remove the glue after each wear to avoid build-up on the lace. It is important to keep the lace clean.

  • After you remove your wig, make sure to detangle it if necessary and place the wig on a wig stand or mannequin head to preserve its quality.

  • Most of all it is important to take care of your natural hair. Many people may forget this step but it is just as important as taking care of your wig. Keep your natural hair happy, healthy, and clean.

Step 4: Washing Your Human Hair Wig (Post- Installation)

It's that time again! And there isn't much of a difference from the first time you washed your hair. However, it has been worn and styled and you're trying to revert it to new. Here are a few extra tips this time around.

  • Follow the Pre- Installation steps as discussed, but this time focus more on your cap. Before placing your wig into the wash bowl mixture make sure to remove the glue (if used) from the lace. You can do so by taking a small edge soft-bristled brush, a little mixture of conditioner with water, and very gently brushing the glue off and peeling in between.

  • Rinse the conditioner from the lace thoroughly!

  • Turn the wig inside out and then submerge it in your wash bowl mixture. Allow your wig to soak for 10 minutes before finishing with the rest of the steps.

You now have all the tools you need to maintain your human hair wig. The most important thing is making it a routine and understanding that just as you would take care of your natural hair you should take care of your wig for better, longer-lasting results. It is your investment, so protect that investment. Use quality products that will benefit and save you in the long run. Not only does "Great hair start with great care" it ends with great care too.
